Bangladesh Embassy in Washington DC has observed the historic Mujibnagar Day in a befitting manner on 17 April. The day’s program began in the morning with ceremonial hoisting of the national flag at the Embassy premises by Ambassador Akramul Qader in presence of all the officers and staff members of the Embassy. Messages from the President Mr. Abdul Hamid, and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina were read out. Special prayers were offered for the eternal peace of the departed souls of the Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, his family members, four national leaders , and the valiant freedom fighters and individuals who sacrificed their lives nad honour to achieve the independence of the country and also for continued peace and prosperity of the country.
In the afternoon, a discussion meeting was organized at the Bangabandhu auditorium of the Embassy. Speaking on the occasion, Ambassador Akramul Qader said that the Mujibnagar Day is immensely significant to our national life because it laid down the foundational stone to the cause of our independence and statehood. Throughout the nine-month long war of independence, the Mujibnagar Government not only worked as a source of inspiration for the people of Bangladesh, but also led the country in every front of its independence struggles including, among others, leading the freedom fighters in the battlefield, making diplomatic efforts to earn international support, and strategizing military planning to defeat the Pakistani occupation forces, he added. The program ended with screening of a documentary film on the historic Mujibnagar Day.
The program was attended, among others, all the officials of the Embassy and the members of the Diaspora.
