PM in meeting with Nat’l Committee on Security Affairs

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina convened a meeting with the National Committee on Security Affairs at her residence, Ganobhaban, today, 4 August, amid the ongoing nationwide non-cooperation movement by protesters. The meeting, which commenced shortly after 11 am, was attended by 29 individuals, including ministers, state ministers, the prime minister’s security adviser, secretaries, and the chiefs of the Army, Navy, Air Force, Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB), police, Coast Guard, National Security Intelligence (NSI), and forces’ intelligence officials.

The cabinet division provides secretarial support to this committee. The last meeting of the committee took place on 15 November 2023, just before the general elections on 7 January 2024. Today’s gathering marks the committee’s first activity since Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina was re-elected for another term.

Formed in 2019, the committee is tasked with re-evaluating all issues related to the country’s security and defense, issuing directives on national security matters, and preparing recommendations for the cabinet.
