Ten eminent persons and organizations of the country have been nominated for Poet Sarojini Naidu Gold Medal Award for their contributions to the country and society. A special meeting of Poet Sarojini Naidu National Memorial Council (PSNNMC) held in the capital city Dhaka recently finalized names of awardees.
They are: Anjuman Mufidul Islam (Humanitarian Service), Mr. Kafiluddin Mahmood (Posthumous, Public Administrator), Mr. Saber Reza Karim (Posthumous, Diplomat), Dr. Atiur Rahman (Reputed Economist), Rasheda K. Chowdhury (Reputed educationist), Dr. Zafrullah Chowdhury, (Gonoshasthaya Kenda, Public Health), Syeda Rizwana Hasan (Expert in environment), Mr. Abul Kalam Azad (Reputed Journalist), Mr. Md. Mehmood Husain (Reputed Banker) and Ms. Nishat Majumder (First Bangladeshi female Everest Climber).
The meeting also decided that the Gold Medals (five each for the year 2013 and 2014) will be awarded in a special ceremony to be held at Hotel Sonargoan Panpacific in April, 2015. Mr. Jalaluddin Ahmed (Ex.-CSP), former secretary presided over the meeting, which was also attended by Maj. Gen. (Retd) Dr. A.R. Khan, former Advisor of Care-taker Govt. and Mr. Abdullah Haroon Pasha (Ex.-CSP), former secretary of the Govt. of Bangladesh.
