Rizvi, Parwar, Nur remanded for 5 more days

The court has granted a 5-day remand for BNP’s Senior Joint Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi, Jamaat’s Secretary General Mia Golam Parwar, and Ganadakshar Parishad President and former DUCSU VP Nurul Haque Nur, along with 8 others, in connection with the clashes surrounding the quota reform movement.

Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Moinul Islam granted the remand on Sunday (28 July) in a case filed at Pallabi police station regarding the fire incident on the metro rail.

The others taken on remand include BNP’s Publicity Secretary Sultan Salahuddin Tuku, Dhaka North Member Secretary Aminul Haque, MA Salam, Kazi Sayeedul Alam Babul, and Mahmudus Salehin.

Earlier, the intelligence police presented them in court, seeking a 10-day remand. Several lawyers applied for their bail. After the hearing, the judge granted a 5-day remand order.

The case statement mentioned that on 19 July, between late afternoon and evening, 5 to 6 thousand people from the quota reform movement entered the Kazipara metro rail station in Kafrul police station area, armed with sticks, iron rods, hockey sticks, and local weapons like machetes, axes, crowbars, cutters, and hammers, with the intent of sabotage and destructive activities. They broke into the entry or exit gates of Kazipara metro rail station. Later, they conducted extensive destructive activities at the concourse of the government facility Kazipara metro rail station and looted valuable equipment and materials.

The statement further mentioned that during this time, significant arson and vandalism were carried out. As a result of these extensive destructive activities, the financial loss to the metro rail station is initially estimated at around 100 crore BDT. Among this, the financial loss under Kafrul police station’s jurisdiction is approximately 50 crore BDT, including various looted items.
