Robi, Daily Star to improve English learning

Robi Axiata Limited and The Daily Star have signed an agreement to stimulate English language learning among secondary level students in the country. Signing of the agreement paves the way for the continuation of the “English in School” project till the end of this year.

Managing Director and CEO of Robi Supun Weerasinghe and Editor & Publisher of The Daily Star Mahfuz Anam inked the agreement at the Robi Corporate Office in the capital today.

1Both Robi and The Daily Star have been pursuing the “English in School” project since 2009 to improve the English language proficiency of students at several high schools across the country. It focused on facilitating the students to enhance their skills through regular grammatical and communicative exercises. Robi also supported a separate weekly page in The Daily Star for improving English language skills.

Last year, the programme concentrated on training teachers in this context. Over 200 teachers from 100 selected schools in Rajshahi, Sylhet, Chittagong and Khulna participated in intensive capacity-building sessions. The endeavour will continue during the next five months as well.

Robi’s Chief Corporate and People Officer Matiul Islam Nowshad; Chief Financial Officer Yap Wai Yip; Executive Vice President, Regulatory Affairs and Company Secretary Mohammed Shahedul Alam; Consultant, Corporate Responsibility Mohiuddin Babar; and Vice President, Communications and Corporate Responsibility Ekram Kabir were present at the signing ceremony.

General Manager, Business Development Sher Ali; General Manager Finance and Administration Mizanur Rahman FCA; and Manager, Business Development Tajdin Hassan from The Daily Star were also present on the occasion.
