Robi hosts Hackathon

Robi has hosted the first Telecom Application Developer Hackathon (TADHack) on June 13-14 2015 in the city at Robi Recreation Center.

In total 30 talented application developers qualified to take part in the TADHack. A thorough screening process was used to determine the apps developers who qualified for the global competition. At the end of the Bangladesh leg of the competition the applications developed by the six participating teams were sent for the global competition to compete for the grand prize of USD 35,000.

1TADHack is the biggest International Telco Apps Development Hackathon. This hackathon takes place at the same time throughout the world. More than 1200 participants from 12 countries (Portugal, Argentina, Australia, Bangladesh, Turkey, Israel, Sri Lanka, India, Spain, Ireland, England, & USA) participated in the global competition this year.

The final teams to take part in this global competition from Bangladesh were from Chittagong University of Engineering & Technology (CUET), Ahsanullah University of Science & Technologies (AUST), Military Institute of Science and Technology (MIST), Creative Developers Ltd., Daffodil International University (DIU), and E-Labs Bangladesh Ltd.

As per the rules of a Hackathon, all the participants had to work on their apps concept for non-stop 24 hours without leaving the venue of the competition. Within this period, they have generated their apps ideas, completed the application development and finally presented in front of a group of expert judges comprised of Mohammad Manzur Rahman, Executive Vice President (EVP) & Head of Digital Services, Robi Axiata Limited; Prof. Dr. Syed Akhter Hossain, Head of Computer Science and Engineering (CSE) Department, Daffodil International University and Taro Araya, CEO, Bangla Trac Miaki VAS Ltd. Comp_Ex team from CUET won the best application idea award and received USD 1,000 as prize-money in the Bangladesh leg of the competition.

Robi had already launched its mobile apps platform bdapps.com. This platform is aimed to leverage the unlimited potential of mobile network capability and bring a dynamic change to the lifestyles of mobile subscribers in the country. Robi is keen to promote this platform to provide its more than 26 million subscribers with the most innovative mobile applications. Robi actively pursues to host the best ideas generated in global and national apps development competition in its bdapps.com platform. Hence, it hosted the first TADHack in Bangladesh.

In the spirit of Igniting the Power Within the company intends to encourage entrepreneurship among the youth of Bangladesh by empowering the application developer community through opening up its’ network. Robi believes that bdapps will soon become a major source of local content; developed and created by Bangladeshis for Bangladeshis.
