Robi Axiata Limited, the most innovative mobile operator in the country, introduced Robi Bangla Messenger service, the first of its kind Bengali instant messaging (IM) service, for all Robi subscribers recently.
The service allows users to use Bengali in an instant messenger service for the first time. Unlike other instant messengers which are handset dependent, Robi Bangla Messenger is entirely SIM-based. It has been designed to cater to the needs of subscribers who do not have smart phones but are Internet savvy.
Robi Bangla Messenger subscribers can chat with all their Robi phone contacts in Bangla or English. Facebook chat is also linked with the service thus enabling subscribers to chat with their Facebook friends.
Commenting on the service Robi Chief Markets Officer, Pradeep Shrivastava, said that, “As a customer-centric organization, Robi is focused on the real needs of its subscribers when designing a service.” He pointed out that the Robi Bangla Messenger service is just another example of that focus.
“That this service has been launched on the eve of the month that we honour our mother tongue is no accident,” he said, adding “Ekushey February is about our pride in our own Bangla language and what is truly a unifying factor for Bangladesh.”
The CMO expected that Robi Bangla Messenger would help satisfy the demand for a messenger service among the internet-savvy and socially vibrant youth segment in the country and stand as yet another milestone achievement for people to communicate with each other in their mother tongue.
Robi users can subscribe to the service by typing ‘REG’ and sending the SMS to 21270. On successful registration subscribers receive a confirmation SMS and a web link (robiim.com) to access the messenger. Registered subscribers can visit the link through their mobile phone browser, set up their profile and start chatting.
While subscribers only pay BDT 2, exclusive of VAT, per day to avail the new IM services, however, data charges are applicable.
