ULFA threatens to blow up Bibiyana gas transmission line

The anti-talk faction of separatist outfit United Liberation Front of Asom (ULFA) has threatened to blow up Bangladesh’s largest gas transmission pipeline, prompting authorities to order an intensified security vigil, a media report said on Wednesday citing an Indian intelligence tip-off. The Paresh Barua-led faction of the United Liberation Front of Assam (ULFA) recently issued the threat to blow up the transmission line of the Bibiyana gas field, which supplies 45 per cent of the gas, the mass circulation Samakal newspaper in a lead story, basing it on information given by Indian intelligence agencies.

IMF lowers forecast for global economy

The International Monetary Fund (IMF) on Tuesday stepped up its warning of weakness in the global economy ahead of a gathering this week of the world’s top economic policymakers in Washington. The IMF said it anticipates the global economy would expand by 3.2 percent this year, down 0.2 percentage points from its forecast just three months ago. ECNEC okays nat’l agro tech programme for 57 districts

Aimed at improving the socio-economic conditions of the farmers and alleviating poverty, the government has launched National Agricultural Technology Programme (NATP-2) with an outlay of Taka 1,878 crore. Over 28,40,000 farmers families would be benefitted after the implementation of the project in 270 upazilas under 57 districts by September 2021, reports BSS. The Executive Committee of the National Economic Council (ECNEC) today approved the NATP-2 project along with seven other development projects at its 26th meeting in current fiscal held at the NEC conference room in the city’s Sher-e-Bangla Nagar. ECNEC Chairperson and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina chaired the meeting.
