Moving toward quality water and sanitation services
Access to sanitation lags behind access to water. Quality of service is poor, with intermittent supplies, continuing environmental degradation, and financially weak service providers. Moreover, future water availability is not guaranteed. Uncertainty about water resources will most profoundly affect poor populations, who often live in disaster-prone areas such as overcrowded settlements and low-lying deltas. Water variability will also strongly impact providers’ ability to maintain adequate quality and quantity of services.
There is no universal solution to these challenges, but the World Bank sees them under three

BD workers’ poetry inspires dance piece in Singapore
For contemporary dance choreographer Raka Maitra, literature has always been the starting point for many of her works, such as those written by Rabindranath Tagore and Omar Khayyam. Titled “From Another Land” and presented under the Esplanade’s Raga series, to be held on September 11 and 12, Maitra’s company Chowk will be presenting a performance based on her Odissi-inspired dance vocabulary, which will also incorporate poetry readings in Bengali by two poet-workers, and an English translation by multidisciplinary artist Bani Haykal.
