Remove visa system between India, Bangladesh: Tripura governor
Tripura Governor Tathagata Roy has said he is in favour of doing away with the visa system between India and Bangladesh so that there is easier cross-border movement of people.
“Why this visa system between India and Bangladesh? This visa system must be removed. I would soon propose to MEA (ministry of external affairs) to remove this visa system,” he said, speaking at Bangladesh’s Independence Day celebrations organised by the Bangladesh Assistant High Commission here on Saturday.
“The leadership of the two countries can sit together and decide about the elimination of visa system, ensuring easy movement of people of two countries,” said Roy, a former member of ![]()
India keen to develop Payra seaport
India has evinced keen interest to invest for developing the Payra seaport in Bangladesh in a move to further strengthen the existing ties between the two neighboring countries.
The interest was shown while Indian High Commissioner to Bangladesh Harsh Vardhan Shringla

Workshop on urban poverty reduction held in city
A regional exchange workshop was organized at the very end of the Urban Partnerships for Poverty Reduction (UPPR) learning and good practices documentation process. It aimed to establish a dialogue among the community members, a selection of national and international experts, the consultant team leading the documentation, and UNDP.
The workshop was organized at Bangabandhu International Convention Centre (BICC), Dhaka during March 20-21, 2016. The workshop featured the findings from the ‘Documentation of UPPR Learning and Good Practices’ – the country’s single largest urban poverty reduction project which was implemented during 2008-2015.

Advance ruling system workshop held in city
A WCO Revenue Package national workshop on the development of an Advance Ruling System for classification, funded by CCF China, was held in Dhaka, Bangladesh, from 28 February to 2 March 2016, at the National Board of Revenue. The workshop was officially opened by the Chairman of the National Board of Revenue and Secretary of Internal Resources of the Ministry of Finance, Mr. Md. Nojibur Rahman.
Fourteen Customs officers participated in the workshop, which was facilitated by a Technical Officer from the WCO Secretariat, a WCO accredited expert from China and an external expert.
Exemplary punishment of Eakub’s killer demanded
Teachers and students of Jahangirnagar University (JU) demanded exemplary punishment on Thursday for a truck driver who killed JU student through his reckless driving.
The demand came at a human chain around at 11.00 am ahead of main entrance of the campus.

BEZA officials visit Sri City in Andhra
An eight member team of senior officials from the Bngladesh Economic Zones Authority (BEZA) visited Sri City multi-product SEZ and industrial park in Andhra Pradesh on Tuesday.
In June last year, Bangladesh government signed a memorandum of understanding with India for establishing two Economic Zones EZs) in Mongla and Bheramara for Indian investors. India
