Lipid-based supplement to improve infant health
Fortified, lipid- or fat-based nutritional supplements provided during pregnancy to women in Bangladesh reduced stunting, abnormally low weight and small head size in babies born to these women, reports a team of University of California, Davis, researchers who led the international project.
The lipid-based supplement was more effective in promoting healthy birth outcomes for infants than just iron and folic acid prenatal supplements, commonly recommended for pregnant women.
Findings from the study, which tracked the health of more than 3,000 participating women and their infants,

A book based on sexual violence, public memories, and the Bangladesh War of 1971, titled “The Spectral Wound” was unfolded at the Jahangirnagar University on Tuesday through a publishing ceremony.

Cabinet clears jute bill
The cabinet on Monday gave the final approval to the draft of the Jute Bill, 2016 with a provision of maximum three years’ imprisonment or maximum Tk one lakh fine or both for the violation of the law.
The approval was given at the regular weekly meeting of the cabinet held at secretariat with prime minister Sheikh Hasina in the chair, reports UNB.
Briefing reporters after the meeting, cabinet secretary Mohammad Shafiul Alam said the proposed draft law is a modification of the jute ordinance 1962.
He said a specific amount of maximum financial punishment has been incorporated in the draft law that was not specified in the original ordinance.
