Trade relations between Japan and Bangladesh have grown steadily over the years, but several challenges persist. Other significant exports include leather goods and home textiles, while Bangladesh imports essential industrial products such as iron and steel, vehicles, and machinery from Japan. However, trade imbalances remain a concern, with Bangladesh facing a merchandise trade deficit with Japan. Additionally, anti-dumping duties (ADD) imposed by Japan on select Bangladeshi exports, such as jute, have further complicated trade relations.
For the first time since gaining independence, a cargo ship from Pakistan transporting rice is scheduled to arrive at Mongla seaport this week.

Minister of health of the United Arab Emirates (UAE) Abdul Rahman bin Mohamed Al Owais called on Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus on Thursday on the sidelines of the World Government Summit (WGS) in Dubai.
The minister thanked the Chief Adviser during the meeting, for joining the prestigious annual summit of top government leaders, saying his presence has uplifted the gathering, according to a message received.
"We learn from people like you," the UAE health minister said as they discussed various aspects of the WGS.
"The WGS is learning from the experiences of people, who have come from all over the world," he said.
