4 rescued from being trafficked in Putkhali

Members of Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) rescued four people, including three women, from Putkhali border point here while they were being trafficked to India on Tuesday night.

womenThe rescued were identified as Salma Khatun, daughter of Sirajul Islam, a resident of Laxmanpur village in Sharsha upazila of Jessore district, Aladina Khatun, daughter of Raja Sheikh, and Sohel Rana and his wife Tania Khatun, residents of Kalia upazila in Narail district.

Rafiqul Islam, sub-inspector of Benapole Port Police Station, said acting on a tip-off that some Bangladeshis were being trafficked to India through the border point, a BGB petrol team conducted a drive in the area at about 9:00pm and rescued the four.

However, the human traffickers fled the scene sensing the presence of the BGB team.

Later, the rescued were handed over to Benapole Port Police Station.

BGB sources said the traffickers took money from the victims to send them to India promising good jobs there.

A case was filed in this connection.
