Begum Laila Alam 12th FIDE Rating Women’s Chess Tournament, under the financial patronage of veteran chess player Begum Laila Alam and organised by Bangladesh Chess Federation began today (Thursday) at Bangladesh Chess Federation Hall-Room. A total of 49 women Including Two International Women Masters, and 3 Women’s FIDE Masters are participating in this competition.
Before starting the games the inauguration ceremony was held, Begum Laila Alam inaugurate the event as chief guest. WIM Rani Hamid and the three sons of Begum Laila Alam: Wali Alam, Wazir Alam and Waqi Alam were present as special guests. Anjum Ara Aksir, Executive Member and Chairman of the Women’s Committee presided over the ceremony and IO Mahmuda Haque Chowdhury Moly Member of the Executive Committee and Member-Secretary of Women’s Committee of Bangladesh Chess Federation gave a speech during the ceremony.
Total of 22 players won their 1st round game and earned full points. In the first round match: WFM Noshin Anjum beat Anowara Khatun, WIM Sharmin Sultana Shirin beat Jarin Tasnim, Nazmeen Akter beat Kazi Zarin Tasnim, WFM Nazrana Khan Eva got walk-over against Alizah Nusaiba Islam, Wadifa Ahmed beat Sanjeedah Khanam Mitul, WIM Rani Hamid beat Poly Khatun, WFM Zakia Sultana beat Arisha Hossain Tuba, Israt Jahan Diba beat Mim Akhter, Tasnia Tarannum Orpa beat Fahmida Afroz, Nusrat Jahan Alo beat Chandny Akhter, Omnia Bint Yusuf Lubaba beat Jahanara Akhter, Afrin Jahan Munia beat Jakia Akhter, Warsia Khusbu got walk-over against Juwayriah Alam, Nusrat Jahan Liza beat Khadiza Hye, Aeon Sarker beat Mst Juthi Moni, Raiba Sobhan Adhora beat Essaba Masnun, Sharmin Khan beat Rashida Akter, Sonia Akter beat Shahinur Khatun, Sumi Akter got walk-over against Sidratul Muntaha, Ashiya Sultana beat Tahira Amani, Tabassum Sadia Shahjahan beat Warisa Haider Sarah and Nargis Kaumudi beat Zowena Mehbish.
The competition is being held in a 7-round Swiss-league system and the winners will be awarded a total of eighty thousand Taka in cash prizes, crests, medals and certificates. The second round matches will start tomorrow (Friday) at the same venue.
