BNP leader Ishraque arrested from Motijheel

Ishraque Hossain, the leader of the Bangladesh National Party (BNP), was arrested while distributing leaflets in protest of rising commodity prices in the capital.

In the Dhaka South City Corporation election, he contested as the BNP’s mayoral candidate. He was arrested in the capital’s Motijheel early in the morning and later confirmed to be held in a case filed under the Special Powers Act, 2020.

The police had previously tried to block the Jatiya Sromik Dal from getting involved in the leaflet distribution programme. As a result, there was a fight between the BNP leaders and the police. Later, Ishraque Hossain was arrested by the police and taken to the Motijheel police station.
