Govt: Switch off lighting until further order to save electricity

The government has imposed a bar on decorative illumination of houses, community centres, shopping malls, shopping centres, offices and residences until further order to save electricity. The restriction was imposed on Thursday in the wake of an exorbitant rise in the prices of petroleum fuels on the global market, said a press release of the Bangladesh Power Development Board (BPDB).

Bangladesh in UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage committee for 4 years

Bangladesh has been elected to UNESCO's Intergovernmental Committee for the Safeguarding of the Intangible Cultural Heritage (ICH) for four years, according to the Ministry of Cultural Affairs. The country was elected to the Intergovernmental Committee of UNESCO 2003 Convention for Safeguarding of the ICH for the 2022-2026 cycle. This is the first time that Bangladesh has been elected to the Intergovernmental Committee formed under the 2009 Convention, said Foreign Minister AK Abdul Momen Thursday. Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on Monday arrived at her ancestral home at Tungipara in Gopalganj on her first visit to the Padma Bridge she inaugurated last month. 50 people killed in Sitakunda fire

The BM container depot at Sitakunda, which is located in Chittagong, has become a graveyard as a result of the horrific fire. On Saturday night, at about 11 o'clock, the fire got started. Last night, after almost 25 hours of fighting, the fire was finally brought under control. In the meantime, the fire claimed the lives of a total of fifty individuals.
