DBBL awards scholarships to 2518 students
In continuation of social cause program Dutch-Bangla Bank Ltd (DBBL) has awarded scholarships to 2,518 students as the 8th phase who passed HSC or equivalent examination in 2013 studying at graduation level in different university or colleges of the country. Finance Minister Abul Maal Abdul Muhith, MP was present as the chief guest at the function and handed over the Scholarship Awarding Letters to the recipients at a ceremony held at Shaheed Shohrawardi Indoor Stadium, Mirpur in the capital on Saturday while Gerben de Jong, the Ambassador of Kingdom of the Netherlands to Bangladesh was present as special guest.

New open data tool to compare countries’ edn progress
The World Bank (WB) Group on Tuesday launched a new open data tool that provides in-depth, comparative, and easily accessible data on education policies around the world. The Systems Approach for Better Education Results (SABER) web tool helps countries collect and analyze information on their education policies, benchmark themselves against other countries, and prioritize areas for reform, with the goal of ensuring that all children and youth go to school and learn.

Children learning disaster preparedness in Bangladesh
Bangladesh is working to enhance children’s understanding of disaster preparedness with the introduction of 10 new supplementary books for teaching the subject, which has been part of the education curriculum in primary and secondary schools since 2004.
“With these books, students will be taught about disaster… [preparedness] by rhymes and stories, so that they can understand the risks,” Shafikur Rahman, chairman of the National Curriculum and Textbook Board (NCTB), told IRIN.
