Anisul, Salman held at last

Police today arrested former law minister Anisul Huq and ousted Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina's private industry and investment affairs adviser Salman F Rahman in a case filed with the New Market Police Station here. Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Media and Public Relations Division Deputy Commissioner Md Faruque Hossain confirmed the development to BSS. Acting on a tip-off, police arrested them from Sadarghat area of the capital city while they were trying to flee through river route, he said.

Bangladeshi youth killed by BSF gunfire near C’nawabganj border

A Bangladeshi youth was shot and killed by gunfire from the Indian Border Security Force (BSF) near the Ahedpur border in Chapainawabganj on Sunday night. The deceased, identified as Md. Abdullah, was reportedly killed on Indian soil near the Ahedpur border in Shibganj upazila. Abdullah was the son of the late Nazrul Islam from South Nishipara in Narayanpur Union, Sadar upazila. According to Abdul Alim, a local Union Parishad member, Abdullah and several other Bangladeshis had crossed the border into India on Sunday night. BFIU for freezing Arafat, wife’s bank accounts

The Bangladesh Financial Intelligence Unit (BFIU) has instructed all banks to freeze accounts of former state minister for information and broadcasting Mohammad A Arafat and his wife Sharmin Mustary. In a letter, the unit today asked banks to block all types of withdrawals through the individual or business accounts to their names. A senior official of the anti-money laundering agency confirmed the matter to BSS.
