DU VC Prof Dr Niaz resigns

Dhaka University Vice Chancellor Professor Dr Niaz Ahmed Khan has submitted his resignation. Dr Niaz Ahmed today met Education Minister Dr ANM Ehsanul Hoque Milon to hand over his resignation letter, according to Mohammad Rafiqul Islam, Director of DU Public Relations.

Bangla Academy Award and Ekushey Padak-winning renowned rhymester Sukumar Barua passed away today at the age of 88.

Sukumar Barua breathed his last at a private hospital in Raozan Upazila of Chattogram this morning.  His daughter Anjana Barua confirmed the death, saying he had been undergoing treatment for a week after fluid accumulated in his lungs. Despite medical efforts, he could not be saved.

Eminent academic and writer Syed Manzoorul Islam, emeritus professor of English at the University of Dhaka, has passed away. He was 74. He breathed his last at 5 pm today (10 October), while undergoing treatment at LabAid Hospital in the capital, the hospital's Public Relations Officer Chowdhury Meher-e-Khoda confirmed to The Business Standard. According to hospital sources, Manzoorul Islam suffered a heart attack last Friday (3 October) and was admitted to the hospital, where he underwent stenting. He was later placed on life support.
