Onion hits kitchen market with increase by Tk 25 per kg
The onion price rose by Tk 25 per kg by the weekend and was selling at Tk 115 per kg which is considered to be shock of the nationwide blockade. The imported onion was found selling slightly at lower rate.
The blockade has also contributed to the rise of vegetables’ price since none of the products was selling below Tk 40 on Friday. However, there was abundance of supplies.
Shamim Ahmed, a wholesaler said at Karwan Bazar that huge quantities of vegetables had been rotten in different parts of the country, including Bogra and Jessore. So, producers have increased the price to recover losses.

Weekly tea auction postponed due to political unrest
The weekly tea auction was postponed on Tuesday amid violent protests against upcoming elections, traders said.
Bangladesh has been rocked by a series of shutdowns and transport blockades over the past few weeks, crippling economic activity.
Tea is sold every Tuesday at the country’s sole auction centre in Chittagong.

Vegetables remain high due to short supply
The price of vegetables rose by Tk 10 to 20 per kg in the city’s kitchen markets on Friday due to short supply during the latest blockade period.
Traders said that they were ready to pay higher fare to the truck owners but most of the drivers refused to arrive in Dhaka for security reason.
Rais Uddin, a wholesaler of Karwan Bazar, said, huge quantities of vegetables had been perished in Bogra and Jessore every day during the hartal and the blockade time. So, the farmers raised the price to recover losses.
Taka stable against Dollar last week
The local currency maintained stable tone last week against the greenback and traded around 77.75 levels. We feel the market will see the same tone next week as well.
