Workshop on commercial expansion of banana fiber held

Bangladesh Women Chamber of Commerce and Industry (BWCCI) and BURO Bangladesh organized a workshop on Commercial Expansion of Banana Fiber Based Products on 24 May 2016 at Conference Room of Human Resource Development Center, BURO Bangladesh at Registrypara, Tangail. The project ‘Socio- economic empowerment of women through promotion of natural fiber-based products from agricultural wastages’ under Bangladesh INSPIRED programme funded by European Union and Ministry of Industries, Government of the People’s Republic of Bangladesh has been being implemented by BWCCI to build capacity of 2000 women entrepreneurs for producing handicrafts from banana and pineapple fiber, thus to reduce poverty and empower women where BURO Bangladesh is the partner of BWCCI for the project.

Bangladesh to invest in Bhutan’s hydropower

A trilateral cooperation among Bhutan, Bangladesh and India that will enable Bangladesh to invest in the Bhutanese power sector to re-import the electricity could soon be a reality. A draft memorandum of understanding on the trilateral collaboration is being circulated among the three friendly countries. Bangladesh’s foreign minister Abul Hassan Mahmood Ali, who was on a visit to the country last week, told Kuensel that his country will invest in the 1,125MW Dorjilung hydropower project in Lhuentse. He said India has agreed to Bangladesh’s proposal to invest in the project and provide transit for transmission of electricity from Bhutan.
