Job fair for disabled people

A discussion and job fair for decent livelihood and employment for persons with disabilities was held at Bangladesh Computer Council (BCC) Bhaban at Agargaon in the capital.

Under the Access to Livelihood project supported by Accensture and Leonerd Cheshre Disability (LCD), CSID and BCC jointly organized the programme on Tuesday to ensure the employment rights of persons with disabilities in the ICT sector.

State Minister for ICT Division Junaid Ahmed Palak attended the occasion as the chief guest and inaugurated the fair.

SM Ashraful Islam, executive director of BCC, Monsur Ahmed Chowdhury, ex-member on UN disabilityDisability Affairs Committee, Khandaker Jahurul Alam, executive director of CSID, and others spoke on the occasion.

A large number of people with disabilities, their family members and representatives from corporate sector were present on the occasion.

Addressing at the function, the speakers called upon all concerned to take necessary steps so that all the persons with disabilities, who comprise 10 percent of the country’s total population, can get scope for decent employment opportunities across the country.

A total of 60 persons with disabilities got jobs at different posts at private organizations, including BASIS, Creative IT Limited, BACCO and Shibchar Food Corners at the fair.
