FAO bestows BR Sen Award
FAO’s work with the Government of Bangladesh to improve food security and nutrition policy and practices has resulted in two FAO specialists receiving the Organization’s highest achievement awards in back-to-back years, FAO announced today.
Lalita Bhattacharjee, an FAO nutrition specialist working toward improvements in nutrition policy and practices in Bangladesh, has won the 2014 FAO B.R. Sen Award, while Ciro Fiorillo, an FAO manager and agricultural and development economist, has received the 2013 B.R Sen Award for exceptional leadership provided to the National Food Policy Capacity Strengthening

Saudi rejects increasing Haj quota
Saudi Arabia has rejected Bangladesh’s proposal to increase the quota of Haj pilgrims, authorities said on Tuesday.
Bangladesh's religious affairs ministry said in a statement on Tuesday that it was "continuing" its efforts to increase the quota fixed by the Saudi government last year, bdnews24.com reported.
A total of 101,758 pilgrims from Bangladesh will be able to perform Haj this year.
But online applications of aspirants exceeded the quota by around 30,000. So, Dhaka had written to Riyadh to accommodate 25,000 more pilgrims.

Modi’s ‘nuisance’ remarks in Bangladesh ‘unfortunate’: Pak
Pakistan today described as “unfortunate” the remarks made by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in Bangladesh where he had accused it of creating “nuisance” and constantly troubling India by promoting terrorism.
The “characterisation of bilateral relations by the Indian prime minister as ‘nuisance’ is unfortunate,” Pakistan Foreign Office spokesperson Qazi Khalillulah said.
He said that Pakistan believes in peaceful co-existence and maintaining good neighbourly relations with India.
