Asia Foundation donates 5,376 books in Jamalpur
The Asia Foundation Bangladesh organized a book donation event on Sunday, August 30, 2015, at Upazila Hall Room, Upazila Complex, Islampur, Jamalpur, to donate approximately 5,376 Bangla and English language books worth approximately 24.5 lakh taka to 32 local schools.
Through the event, The Asia Foundation promoted the role of books for developing reading and literacy among students and school teachers of the Jamalpur district. Caritas urges to ensure more labor rights
Bangladesh needs to do more to ensure labor rights in the country, says a Caritas official reacting to the U.S. keeping the country off its list of developing nations who enjoy special trade privileges.
“If Bangladesh can ensure labor rights, and regain the generalized system of preferences, the industry can make even more progress and the workers will benefit greatly,” says Caritas Dhaka regional director Ronjon F. Rozario.
The United States announced on Aug. 11 it was not reinstating Bangladesh to a list giving trade privileges to 122 developing countries. The generalized system of preferences scheme allows duty-free access for up to 5,000 
Qatar Charity provides water in Bangladesh
Qatar Charity (QC) has reached out to Bangladesh which is caught in the grip of a drought.
QC started a project in Nouga, which has suffered a shortage of drinking and irrigation water and other basic services, resulting from a drought in the region.
The project is wide-ranging in the facilities it is offering. It comprises 12 water units with networks for the people and lands, a health centre with outpatient clinics, inpatient beds and laboratories and a school for children, at a cost of over QAR2m.


Homeless child inspired him to help hundreds

BD must demand UN political body on global tax matter: NGOs
Several non-governmental organisations here on Wednesday demanded that Bangladesh delegation to the UN Addis Ababa Conference on Finance for Development should propose a UN political body on global tax matter that will support elimination of all sorts of loophole for an equal taxing and stop illicit finance flow.
They also demanded inclusion of political leadership in the Bangladesh delegation to the conference.
