Dengue: 1 dead, 240 hospitalized in 24 hrs

One person died of dengue while 240 others were admitted to different hospitals across the country during the last 24 hours (till 8am today).

It was said in a release of Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) on Friday.

With the latest, the death toll from dengue rose to 64 while the number of dengue patients admitted to different hospitals reached 2,282.

Of the new patients, 192 are admitted to different hospital in capital Dhaka while 48 are outside of Dhaka.

With the new cases, the total number of dengue patients this year rose to 19,523 while some 17,177 patients were released from the hospitals.

Dengue fever is a mosquito-borne illness that occurs in tropical and subtropical areas of the world. The outbreak of the disease is usually seasonal, peaking during and after rainy seasons.

The World Health Organization (WHO) classifies dengue as one of the top 10 threats to public health.

On September 6, the daily highest number of people died of dengue this year. On that day 5 people died from the mosquito-borne disease.
