Dhaka Electric Supply Company (Desco), a state-owned power distribution firm in the country, has issued a tender for the development of 120 MW of grid-connected solar capacity. The project will be divided into eight lots of 15 MW each, with applications due by 5 May 2025.
The tender covers the design, construction, financing, operation, and maintenance of solar installations across Desco’s service area, which includes Dhaka and its surrounding regions. The systems, each with a capacity of 15 MW, will be installed on selected rooftops and integrated into Desco’s distribution network via net metering.
Engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) contractors interested in participating must submit their expressions of interest by the deadline.
However, concerns over financial viability remain, as none of the 41 solar projects tendered by the Bangladesh Power Development Board between January and February received bids, with investors considering the terms unfeasible.
