DU students win StartUp businesses process tools competition

Winners of StartUp DU have recently been announced at a ceremony at EMK Centre in  the capital . The students of DhakaUniversity have participated in this “Business Process Tool Competition” in the five areas such as Human Resources; project Management, Payment Integration, Customer Relations Management and Accounting. Seven teams: Business for Good, Fireflies, Goods, Clockwork, IIT DU Odysseus, IIT Clover and Business Regiment became finalists.

Start up duThrough a rigorous mentoring and judging process Three Teams have been finally awarded the Top Awards and Cash Prizes of BDT 50,000, BDT 15,000 and 10,000 respectively. All the tools are available at the Startup DU website: www.startupdu.com for free usage by the Bangladeshi startup community.

A DhakaUniversity alumnus and Founder CEO of Ennovision Nazmul Ahmed initiated this competition with the vision of creating solutions for startups of Bangladesh by bringing together the entrepreneurs from the University of Dhaka, the pioneer institution of the country. He said:

“When I started few years ago as a startup I struggled with business process automation because there were no tools available that I could use readily. I wanted to solve that pain for the budding startups. I also felt it is increasingly important to be connected between and among the startups and businesses particularly from the same alumni community and I thought established businesses have a lot to give back to the new entrepreneurs.”

The competition began on March 22nd 2014 with a Kickoff event and through a series of workshops  and mentoring sessions with domain specialists such as  Al-Amin Kabir (Managing Director ,DevsTeam),  Leonika Hannan (Head of HR, NewsCred),  Alavee Hossain(IT project manager, BNY Mellon), Md Masuk H. Khan(Compliance Analyst, Chevron), Fida Haq(CEO of Shurjomukhi), Saidur Mamun Khan(Country Manager, Elance) the participants reached the semi-final. At the semi-final round 7 teams were finally chosen for the final round through an intensive presentation and judging process.

Mirza Salman Hossain Beg (Head of Sales & Marketing, Green & Red Technology), one of the judges of the semi-final round said: “The initiative is really praiseworthy and the participants teams seems promising to me”. Saddam Azad from Dugdugi, Sayeda Kamrun Ahmed from akhoni.com and Shaheen Nur Rashid from Orange were the other judges for the semi-final round.

The judges for the final round include Parveen Huda, Samira Himika, Korvi Rakshand and Shahid Hossain Shamim. The partners of Startup DU are Dhaka University Career Club(DUCC), Webable, Bangladesh Startup Cup and BYEL. The patrons are DU Timz, The Preneurs and Geeky.
