Erasmus competition held in city

A delegation of Bangladeshi youths met with the EU Ambassador to Bangladesh, Pierre Mayaudon on Tuesday January 27, 2015, at EU Delegation, Dhaka.

eramusMost of the 20 winners of the Erasmus competition came to the EU Delegation on the day.

The EU Delegation in Bangladesh organized an Erasmus contest next week, from the 18th to the 22nd of January.

The interested participants had to reply to the questions posted every day at 11am in this Facebook page, ‘European Union in Bangladesh’. The four fastest people were selected as the winners every day. The competition was open to Bangladeshi nationals residing in Bangladesh (excluding EU staff). Participants were restricted to win once in the entire competition. The participants interacted with the EU delegations to Bangladesh on the issues of Erasmus Plus and received exclusive Erasmus Plus T-shirts and pen drives at the end of the event.

On the first day of the competition, the authority posted what language Erasmus of Rotterdam wrote? He was a Dutch thinker and an influential writer leading humanist movement. Moreover, he used to write mainly in one of the old European classical languages, Latin.

The new Erasmus+ 2014-2020 program for education, training, youth and sport of the European Union includes a component called ‘Jean Monnet Action’, promoting excellence in teaching and research in the field of European Union studies worldwide. Jean Monnet is a French politician considered one of the founding fathers of the European Union. He led the ECSC created in 1951 which was one of the basic foundations of European construction.

In case of Day-3, the page asked the number of Members of the European Parliament (MEPs)? The answer was 751 members. The new Erasmus+ program for education, training, youth and sport 2014-2020 of the European Union was approved by the European Parliament and the Council on 11 December 2013.

The European Parliament is the only directly-elected body of the European Union. The members of the European Parliament are elected once every five years by voters right across the 28 Member States of the European Union on behalf of its 500 million citizens.

Interestingly on fourth day, the page posted a European language called, Bulgarian. The promotion of language learning and linguistic diversity is one of the specific objectives of Erasmus+ programme 2014-20. The European Union has 24 official languages.

Final day marked quizzing the aspirants to recognize two university partnerships among EU and Bangladesh, from the five given abbreviations— ASSUR, LEADER, MARHABA, EURASIA, LEADERS. The right replies were LEADER and LEADERS. However, Action 2 of Erasmus Mundus supports the establishment of cooperation partnerships between European universities and universities from the rest of the world. Every year, many Bangladeshi students go to Europe in the framework of these partnerships. In 2014, new partnerships were selected by the European Union.
