Leading cellular phone operator Grameenphone has registered 13.67 per cent net profit in the first quarter ending on March 31.
The operator made a profit of Taka 516.01 crore in the period while it was Taka 53.96 crore during the same quarter of 2013, according to the financial statement of the operator released today at a press conference at a city hotel.
Grameenphone CEO Vivek Sood made the announcement.
He said: “We’ve managed to revive our performance during the quarter after passing a depressed period (October-December 2013) triggered by the resumption of economic activities and maintenance of solid traction in the market. We expect to maintain this momentum and drive business further.”
At the end of this first quarter (January to March) Grameenphone’s earnings per share (EPS) stood at Taka 3.82 as against consolidated profit after paying tax (excluding non- controlling interest).
It’s consolidated EPS was Taka 3.36 for the same period of the previous year. Grameenphone reported revenue of Taka 2,490 crore, up by 6.1 per cent compared to the same period last year.
The operator also claimed the revenue growth was mainly driven by increased voice, data revenue with momentum from 3G, SMS and campaign driven content services.
Grameenphone also managed to add 15 lakh new active subscribers in the first quarter, taking its total subscribers to 4.86 crore.
