IBA clinch ‘Battle of Minds 2014’ award

Institute of Business Administration (IBA) of Dhaka University bagged the first prize of Battle of Minds-2014.

The annual competition is a prestigious event of British American Tobacco Bangladesh in the recruitment of talented human resources in the industries.

BOM-3Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET) became the first runner up while Islamic University of Technology (IUT) bagged the second runner up award.

BATB  Chairman,  Golam Mainuddin, and Board of Directors members Md. Mosharraf Hossain Bhuiyan, Secretary, Ministry of Industries, Kamrul Hasan, Former Secretary, Ministry of Defence, Md. Fayekuzzaman, Managing Director, Investment Corporation of Bangladesh and K.H. Masud Suddiqui, Former Secretary, Ministry of Liberation & War Affairs presented the certificates to winning teams in a programme at Hotel Radisson Blu.

BAT is hosting the event from 2004 and this year on its 11th edition, a total of 2200 students from different universities across country took part in the competition through online application. The online applications were narrowed down to 150 students who moved to first round. Then 60 candidates who took part in various competitions and won, moved to second round. Students from IBA, North South University, University of Khulna, BUET, Jahangir Nagar University, Islamic University of Technology and Independent University of Bangladesh (IUB) took part on semifinal rounds in the competition.

Battle of Mind-2014 competition was announced in September at IBA auditorium, University of Dhaka through a road show.

Nahiyan Rehman, award winning student from IBA told, ‘This competition has increased our self confidence. This competition will serve as a motivator when we will enter the new career by the end of study period.”

Shehzad Munim, Managing Director, BATB said, ‘’we are hosting this event for 11 years as a part of our recruitment process. In 2004 the number of participants was 16 and this year it is 2200. This competition introduces students to the real life work experience before entering the world of work. We can bring out the best of students through this kind of competition.”

Mr. Mosharrof Hossain Bhuiyan, Secretary, Industry Ministry and Board of Directors, Member of BATB said ‘Such competition of recruitment process is now well-testified. This kind of competition should be held more to encourage the students.”
