Tuba Group Sramik Sangram Committee has called an indefinite strike in the garment factories across the country starting Thursday.
The strike was called after the agitating workers were evicted from the factory at North Badda in the capital this afternoon. The law enforcers stormed the premises around 1:00 pm and lobbed tear gas canisters and charged batons on the agitating workers.
Police also arrested Garments Sramik Oikya Forum President Moshrefa Mishu and Bangladesh Trade Union Centre’s Assistant General Secretary Jolly Talukder. According to sources, Mishu called the strike a few hours before she was detained.
Several hundred workers of Tuba have been observing hunger strike since July 28 demanding payment of their unpaid salary, bonus and allowances.
