New Indian Foreign Secretary S Jaishankar is coming to Dhaka on Mar 2.
Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Feb 13 informed his counterpart Sheikh Hasina by telephone that he will be sending his new foreign secretary to Dhaka.
A senior foreign ministry official confirmed the date of his visit.
The foreign ministry official said they got the date on Sunday. “He will visit for a day and leave on Mar 3.”
Modi replaced Sujatha Singh with Jaishankar last month.
Sources in India’s external affairs ministry informed that Jaishankar had been asked by Modi to convey to the Bangladesh government India’s intention to clear the two contentious issues soon.
Dhaka has been demanding the passage of the bill in India’s Parliament on the swap of enclaves as well as the equitable share of the Teesta river water.
