Maintaining social distancing directives,teachers, students and employees of Jagannath University (JnU) on Tuesday celebrated the 15th founding anniversary of the university with limited programmes.
Due to the ongoing COVID-19 outbreak, the university authoritieswere forced to cancel a number of programmes. Theyarranged some programmesin limitedscale instead.For the first time, no colourful procession was brought out to mark the day.
JnUVice-chancellor Professor Dr Mijanur Rahmaninaugurated the day-long celebration at 9:10with the hoisting of the national flag and releasing balloons and festoons in unison with the singing of inaugural song in front of the university administration building.
Later,the university’s maiden hall ‘Begum Fazilatunnesa Mujib Hall’ for female studentswas inaugurated by the Vice-chancellorat 9:30 am.A rest house for drivers and helpers of transportation poll was also inaugurated by the VC.
Avirtual discussion program wasarranged at 10:30 am with JnU VC as chief guest andtreasurer Professor Kamaluddin Ahmed in chair.Among others, JnU register Eng Wahiduzzaman, JnUTA president Prof. Nure Alam Abdullah, Begum Fazilatunnesa Mujib Hall ProvostProf. Dr. S.M Anwara Begum took part the program.
Besides, Music department of the university arranged a virtual cultural program started from 12:30pm and ended around 2:00pm.
Addressing the discussion program, the VC said although Jagannath University started its journey from 2005 but as a university it started its journey from 2011 on 7.5 acres land. Since 100 percent non-residential university of the country, the university is going forward than other contemporary universities overcoming many problems. All infrastructural crises the university have would be solved by establishing new campus.
In 1868, Jagannath Roy Chowdhury founded a school, which was upgraded to a college in 1884. The college was turned into a public university on October 20, 2005.At present, Jagannath university has six faculties, 36 departments, twoinstitutes, 679 teachers and13,165 students.
