Leaders and activists of Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) of Jahangirnagar University (JU) unit beat up a Jatiyatabati Chhatra Dal (JCD) leader in front of Social Science Building in the reason of derogatory remarks on facebook to the Prime Minister of Bangladesh.
The injured was identified as Md. Israfil Chowdhury Shohel, a student of Economics Department and also joint secretary of JU Sheikh Mujibur Rahman hall JCD unit.
The injured was rushed to the university medical centre for primary treatment and following sent to the Enam Medical Centre for the better treatment.
The witness said that around at 12.00 pm, Shohel was beaten up in front of Social Science building when he came to the department to attend the class. The attackers led by Nowsad Alam Anik, president of Rafiq Jabber hall BCL unit, with BCL leader Ishtiakh Ahmed, Sumon Sarker, Saimon, Anik Kumar, Moshiur Rahm were mercilessly beat him up with iron rod, pipe and sticks. Later, they handed him over to the university authorities.
The victim said,’I am victimized to the bad politics. I want proper trial in this incident.’
In this matter, Anik said the correspondent that he (Shohel) always retrograde remarks on facebook. In this reason, we have beaten up hum little, slap him and also handed over to the university authorities.
On duty doctor Shamol Kumar Sheeel said, Shohel received injuries on his chest, arms waist and legs. I found the sign of beating at different place of the body.
On the other hand, JU JCD unit and Jatiyatabadi Teachers Forum protested the incident and urged to the university authorities to ensure the punishment of the attackers.
JU JCD Vice-President Obaidullah Shuvo said, ‘In support of the university’s administration, BCL cadres attack on our leaders and activists. He also threatened that if they cannot control over the BCL cadres, we will take proper steps in the future time.
