Oxfam Run 2025: A call for justice and equality

Oxfam in Bangladesh is set to organise the ‘Oxfam Run’ today (Saturday, 22 Feb 2025)  at Dhaka’s Hatirjheel to promote the rights of four million domestic workers in the country.

The event, themed ‘Advocacy Beyond Walls,’ will bring together over 2,000 participants advocating for equality and the legal recognition of domestic workers.

Supported by Global Affairs Canada, the run aims to push for the recognition of domestic workers as ‘labour’ under Bangladesh’s labour law.

Oxfam is calling for the implementation of the 2015 Policy on Domestic Workers’ Protection and Welfare, the ratification of ILO Convention 189, and stronger legal safeguards for domestic workers.

“Oxfam Run is more than just a symbolic event; it is a call for justice,” said Mahmuda Sultana, Acting Country Director of Oxfam in Bangladesh.

Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) Administrator Mohammad Azaz will attend as the chief guest, alongside senior officials from the ministries of labour, youth, and women’s affairs as special guests.

Oxfam first organised the event in 2024. Building on its success, the second edition reflects a shared commitment to ensuring fair treatment, dignity, and legal recognition for domestic workers in Bangladesh.
