Paterson to celebrate Bangladesh Heritage Week from 23 to 29 March

March 23 to March 29 will be considered Bangladeshi Heritage Week in the City of Paterson.  Sponsored by Councilman-at-Large Md. Forid Uddin, the week will honour the significant contributions of the Bangladeshi community to the city’s culture, athletics, politics, and economy.

The week-long celebration will coincide with the global observance of Bangladesh’s Independence Day on March 26, commemorating the nation’s independence gained in 1971.

The day is often marked by music, parades, fairs, and other cultural gatherings that celebrate Bangladesh’s rich history and traditions.

“We are recognizing the last week of March as Bangladesh Heritage Week, as March 26 is Bangladesh Independence Day,” Councilman-at-Large Md Forid Uddin said. “I want to celebrate this week, and since this is also the month of Ramadan, I’ve decided to hold the celebration sometime in April.”

Paterson’s Bangladeshi residents have played a pivotal role in fostering growth, innovation, and prosperity in the city, officials said. The city’s thriving Bangladeshi community has been instrumental in shaping Paterson’s diverse culture, and this week-long event will serve to recognize its ongoing contributions.
