“It is because we are concerned about human rights that we came to Dhaka. Peace and stability in Bangladesh should not be at the cost of political and civil rights. Freedom of expression is a multidimensional and active basis of democracy.”
The European Union mission in Dhaka released this notice yesterday evening. Led by vice chair of the sub-committee Cristian Van Preda, the three-member delegation arrived in Dhaka on 16 February and left at 3am this morning.
Cristian Van Predasaid, “We came on this visit due to our concern about human rights. We want Bangladesh as a strong partner. Respect for human rights and democracy is an essential component for Bangladesh to reach its goal of becoming a mid-income country by the year 2021.”
