Miscreants shot dead six including the manager of Bangladesh Commerce Bank, Kathgora branch in Ashulia on the outskirts of capital Dhaka during a broad daylight robbery at the bank this afternoon.
The other dead victims include cashier of the Bank, local shop owner Nurul Islam, local youth Palash, a security guard of the bank and a robber.
Locals caught two of the robbers – Raju and Mamun – during the incident that took place around 2:00pm.
Bodies of the dead victims have been kept at Enam Clinic in Savar, reports the Daily Star.
According to witnesses, several robbers took position at all sides of the bank after 1:00pm. They later entered the bank separately in the guise of customers.
Once they were inside, the robbers took the bank officials hostage at gunpoint in a bid to loot money. They also beat up a guard this time.
Sensing the presence of the robbers inside, a street vendor and owners of some adjacent shops tried to enter the bank.
To scare them away and make their way, the robbers opened fire this time.
