Rajshahi University (RU) authorities yesterday accorded warm reception to the freshers under the academic session 2014-15 at Kazi Nazrul Islam auditorium on the campus.
RU students’ adviser Prof Sadiqul Arefin Matin delivered welcome speech at the start of the reception programme.
Prof Muhammad Mizanuddin, Vice- Chancellor (VC) of the university presided over the reception programme while Pro-VC Prof Chowdhury Sarwar Jahan was present as special guest.
Prof Mizanuddin in his speech welcomed the students and inspired them to take pleasure in the student life with a bit care.
He said, beside education and research, university is the place from where students should enrich social values and make mind progressive.
“The purpose of education is to acquire knowledge from reality and to utilize it for mankind”, he added.
He, however, called upon the freshers to keep away themselves from evil forces in the holly institution.
Among others, RU treasurer Prof Sayen Uddin Ahmed, Proctor Prof Tarikul Hasan, dean of social science faculty Prof Nulufar Sultana, Rahmatunnesa hall provost Prof Sabrina Naz spoke at programme.
On behalf of the students, Abdullah Al Mahmud and Subha Saima Ifti, both are the first year student of applied physics and electronic engineering and social work department respectively spoke at the programme.
A cultural programme followed the reception.
