Structural changes in health sector a must

The National Council for the Development of Management (NCDM) has been launched to reduce mismanagement of the health sector and make structural changes in the sector through proper planning. An online press briefing was organized by the council on Thursday to announce their debut.

NCDM announced a human chain in front of the National Press Club to be held on Saturday at 11:00 am to demand speedy removal and trial of those responsible for the mismanagement of the health sector.

The online press briefing was chaired by the Convener of NCDM Prof Dr Major Nazmul Ahsan Kalimullah, BNCCO. The keynote address was delivered by the Joint Convener of the NCDM public health researcher Dr Shamim Talukder. Dr Tanvir Abir, Associate Professor, International University of Business Agriculture and Technology acted as moderator.

In the press briefing, Prof Dr Kalimullah highlighted the context of the formation of NCDM. He said, “The recent coronavirus epidemic has brought terrible disaster to the country and the people of the country. This catastrophic upheaval has been further exacerbated by the rampant irregularities and mismanagement of the health sector. Many people are losing their lives due to this mismanagement. Violation is the constitutional right of people to health care. The Prime Minister’s efforts to combat the coronavirus and develop the health sector have rarely been effective due to mismanagement.” “Not only in the health sector, but this mismanagement is also being observed in almost all sectors.” We believe that through proper management, it is possible to ensure the best use of the limited resources of Bangladesh and the services due to the people of Bangladesh. So, with this primary goal of developing management in the national sector in mind, NCDM has been officially launched, Dr Kalimullah added.

Dr Shamim talked about the goals and objectives of the formation of the NCDM. He said, “We have a sense of responsibility towards the people, especially the unethical trade in the country in the name of providing coronary health care and the resulting mismanagement, which the people think is playing a key role in destabilizing the health sector.” “People also think that just as there should be proper justice and exemplary punishment for health professionals arrested in recent times for corruption allegation, there is a need for structural change through proper planning. There is no substitute for continuous effort. We are united with the aspirations of the people”. “We want the national service sectors of Bangladesh to be built to build the Bangladesh of Bangabandhu’s dream. We have formed the NCDM for this purpose”, said Shamim Talukder.
