Students in no other country make such sacrifices, says Yunus

During a briefing with foreign diplomats about the nation’s current situation at Hotel Intercontinental on August 18, Dr. Yunus recounted the harrowing scenes he witnessed in hospitals. Dr. Yunus highlighted that students in no other country had to make such sacrifices in their quest for democratic rights and human dignity.

Dr. Muhammad Yunus, the Chief Adviser of the interim government,  paid tribute to the students and young individuals who sacrificed their lives and suffered severe injuries during the quota reform movement, as well as in the subsequent violence that led to the fall of the Hasina government.

“Young people were brutally attacked by the forces and the student wing of Sheikh Hasina’s government. Some have even lost their eyesight due to rubber bullets fired at them.

“Though I couldn’t speak to them, I deeply respect their ultimate sacrifices,” Yunus expressed.

“One young person told me, ‘I wanted to be a cricketer. Look at what has happened to my legs.’ There are no words to describe the suffering endured by the young generation of Bangladesh to safeguard their rights,” said Yunus.
