BD plans trade renegotiation to face challenges from Brexit
Bangladesh would soon plan trade renegotiations with the United Kingdom (UK) to tackle the challenges that the country would face following the Brexit referendum, Commerce Minister Tofail Ahmed said today (Saturday).
The UK is leaving the European Union (EU) as Britons on Friday voted to exit the EU, sending a global warning of severe impact on the countries’ trade and economy particularly those are closely associated with the Euro block, reports BSS.

River eats up land, homes in Kurigram
Piyara Begum once had a happy life in Garuhara village by the Brahmaputra River in northern Bangladesh, but worsening erosion of the river banks has displaced her family seven times.
Now Piyara, 30, has taken shelter in Panchgachi village, 8 kilometres away in the same sub-district of Kurigram Sadar.
“I am always concerned about where Piyara and her three children are living, and how she manages her family expenses, as she has lost everything due to erosion,” said her uncle, Abdul Majid, who still lives in Garuhara village.
The loss of Piyara’s home is taking a toll on her mental and physical health, he added.

Contract with FireEye unlikely to extend
Bangladesh Bank is unlikely to extend the contract of U.S. cyber security firm FireEye to investigate the electronic theft of $81 million of its money, sources at the bank said on Wednesday, citing high costs as one of the factors.
The move comes as law enforcement in Bangladesh and the United States have reported little progress in identifying the criminals more than four months after one of the biggest cyber heists to date.
FireEye’s Mandiant forensics division was hired by Bangladesh Bank weeks after the cyber heist in early February. It said in an interim report that hackers took control of the bank’s network,

Radio channel for Bangladesh in India, plans joint content
A Bangla radio service, launched in 1971 during the Bangladesh Liberation Movement and discontinued in 2010, will again go on air on June 28. Officials said that once India restarts the service in its new avatar, Akashvani Maitree, it would be a unique broadcast service in which two nations would jointly create content.

Atiur blames global system for BB heist
The former governor of Bangladesh’s central bank, from which $81 million was stolen in February, says that flaws in the global money transfer system — and not any misstep by him — are to blame for the brazen cyberheist.
