NEPAL: Blood in the hands of the government

The Asian Human Rights Commission (AHRC) has expressed concern regarding the excessive use of force by the police, which resulted in the killings of around 19 student members, including a 7-year-old child, on 8 September 2025 in Nepal. More than an estimated 500 young people who called themselves “Gen Z” were also injured during the anti-corruption protest, and after the government decided to shut down social media platforms, including Facebook and YouTube.  Protests were carried out all over the country, and curfews have been placed in many cities of the country.

BD slips to 100th position in Democracy Index

Bangladesh has dropped 25 positions to 100th place out of 167 countries in the Economist Intelligence Unit’s Democracy Index 2024, as its score reaches a record low. The annual index, released on Thursday, rated the state of democracy in countries across the globe based on five categories – electoral process and pluralism, functioning of government, political participation, political culture, and civil liberties.
