565kg illicit gold seized in Bangladesh in 2013-14
The gold smuggling in Bangladesh has risen day by day, penetration by gold smuggling cartels of the national airlines of Bangladesh was all over the news recently, but government took strict steps to prevent gold smuggling and a record 565kg of gold was seized by the government in 2013-14, Chairman of National Board of Revenue (NBR), Ghulam Hussain told the Customs Today here the other day.
He added that low gold import duty in Bangladesh, compared to that of India, encouraged smugglers to use Bangladesh as a transit route to channel gold into India.
AirAsia Indonesia flight to Singapore missing
An AirAsia Indonesia airliner flying from Indonesia to Singapore with 162 people on board has gone missing.
Flight QZ8501 lost contact with air traffic control at 06:24 local time (23:24 GMT Saturday) over the Java Sea.
The plane, an Airbus A320-200, disappeared midway into the flight of more than two hours from the city of Surabaya. No distress call was made.

China proposes FTA with Bangladesh
China on Sunday proposed signing a Free Trade Agreement (FTA) with Bangladesh to boost trade ties between the two countries, minimising the trade gap against Bangladesh.
The Chinese side came up with the proposal at bilateral talks between the two countries at the Foreign Ministry.

The World Bank (WB) continues to show its confidence on Bangladesh government and provide another loan of USD 500 million to Bangladesh for riverbank improvement projects to prevent erosion and reduce the incidence and severity of flooding along selected sections of the Brahmaputra and Jamuna.
