
Govt to bring back money sent abroad
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina yesterday said her government would take steps to bring back money deposited with Swiss banks by some Bangladeshis.
Referring to recent media reports about deposition of money into Swiss bank accounts by Bangladeshis, she noted, “We've already taken initiatives to get the list of the depositors. We'll also take steps to know the amount of deposits and bring the money back.”
She was speaking at a rally at the capital's Suhrawardy Udyan in the afternoon marking the Awami League's 65th founding anniversary, reports the Daily Star.


75pc remittance eludes productive sectors
Only 25 percent of the remittance-receiving households invest in productive sectors after paying for livelihood necessities, while others do not, the statistical agency said in a survey yesterday.
Remittance receivers spend 39 percent of funds on food and non-food items, according to the survey by Bangladesh Bureau of Statistics, reports The Daily Star.

74 forced disappearance victims this year
At least 74 people are known victims of forced disappearance from January to May, according to a human rights body.
