Bangladesh receives $ 78.4m to install more solar systems

The Bangladesh government Tuesday signed a $78.4 million additional financing to further scale-up support for the successful solar home systems (SHS) program of Bangladesh. The credit for the additional financing to the Bangladesh Rural Electrification and Renewable Energy Development II (RERED II) Project is from the International Development Association (IDA), the World Bank Group’s soft loan arm. The project will help install an additional 480,000 solar home systems that has emerged as a viable electrification option for areas without grid access to electricity. wb

Saree diplomacy between India and Bangladesh  

It is time for saree diplomacy in the South Asian region. What started of as a one –off affair a month ago between India and Pakistan, has now reached Dhaka marking the first stand alone foreign visit of Sushma Swaraj, the Indian External Affairs Minister. Former premier Khaleda Zia presented two Jamdani sarees to Swaraj at her 30-minute meeting (one of the sarees was a gift for the visiting minister’s daughter) on Friday. ADB to promote low-carbon technology in developing nations  

The Asian Development Bank (ADB) will promote low-carbon technology in Indonesia and other developing countries of Bangladesh, Cambodia, Lao Peoples Democratic Republic, Maldives, Mongolia, Palau, and Viet Nam.
