Aiming to establish uninterrupted power connection between capital Dhaka and the western region, the government has launched a fresh project to install a 400KV transmission line from Amin Bazar to Mongla via Mawa.
The modern and high-capacity transmission line would also bring the surplus electricity of Rampal coal fired power plant to Dhaka, reports BSS.
Power Grid Company of Bangladesh will implement the project involving Taka 1,356 crore by June, 2020. Asian Development Bank (ADB) would provide Taka 663 crore as project assistance while PGCB would contribute Taka 155.22 crore from own fund and the remaining Taka 538 crore would come from the national exchequer.
Talking to BSS, Masum-Al-Beruni, Managing Director of Power Grid Company of Bangladesh (PGCB), today said main focus of the transmission line is to evacuate the power to be generated in Rampal 1320 MW coal fired power plant.
Besides, it would keep option to evacuate electricity from the power plant in Mawa which is planned to be installed in future, he added.
Replying to a query, the PGCB Managing Director said they have to install special towers on 2 kilometers downstream of the Padma Multipurpose Bridge (PMB) to transmit power over the river, as the PMB authority did not allow them to use the bridge for it.
The main activities of the project are installation of 9.4 kilometers of river crossing line beside the PMB and 164.6 kilometers of 400KV transmission line as well as a substation at Amin Bazar.
The project would be implemented through Savar (Amin bazar), Lauhajang (Mawa) of Munshiganj and Mongla of Bagerhat district.
According to the project summary, Bangladesh Power Development Board (BPDB) is implementing 1320MW coal fired power project at Rampal in Mongla. A part of the electricity generated from the plant would be transmitted to greater Faridpur district, Khulna and Barisal divisions using the western region power network. Besides, the surplus power needs to be brought to Dhaka, but there is no direct inter-linkage between Dhaka and western region power network.
Currently, western grid network is connected with eastern gird network through two interconnections in Ishwardi-Ghorashal 230KV (1st connection) and Ashuganj-Sirajganj (2nd connection).
