Speakers at a sewing machine distribution ceremony have stressed for enhanced participation of the womenfolk in economic activities for income generation to ensure women development and empowerment.
They were addressing the ceremony arranged for distribution of 25 sewing machines free of costs among 25 unemployed and distressed women by Goddimari union parishad at its hall room under Hatibandha upazila in Lalmonirhat on Tuesday afternoon.
Authority of the union parishad distributed the sewing machines among the beneficiary women of ward No-9 under assistances of the Local Governance Support Project (LGSP) to assist them attaining self-reliance through income generation activities, reports BSS.
Chairman of Goddimari union parishad Jalal Uddin Bulu distributed the sewing machines’ in the ceremony as the chief guest with union parishad secretary Swapan Kumar Roy in the chair.
Members of Goddimari union parishad Zakir Hossain, Noor Islam and Khalilur Rahman and beneficiary women Jarina Begum and Narmita Rani addressed the ceremony, among others.
Earlier, the beneficiary women were provided month-long training on sewing readymade handloom garments under the programme.
The speakers put emphasis on skill development for all citizens including unemployed females to engage their combined efforts as working forces to achieve the long-cherished goal of building an economically self-reliant nation.
They called upon both the public and private sectors for engaging their coordinated efforts in producing skilled work forces to turn every citizen worthy when the country’s population increases creating more and more unemployment.
They asked the beneficiary women for making the best use of the sewing machines through applying the practical knowledge they achieved earlier from the training course to alleviate poverty and achieve self-reliance.
