India says Mollah’s execution internal judicial outcome
Abdul Qauder Mollah's execution is an outcome of the internal judicial processes and laws of Bangladesh, said India reiterating its previous stance on Bangladesh’s internal matters.
Official spokesman of the Ministry of External Affairs, India Syed Akbaruddin on Friday came up with the remark in response to questions on Bangladesh, including the statement of opposition leader and BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia, according to a media release issued by the Indian High Commission in Dhaka.
“We’re confident that as a democracy the people of Bangladesh will resolve their differences through dialogue and peaceful means, in an atmosphere free of violence,” Akbaruddin said.

Vegetables soothes but other mark upward trend
The price of vegetables in the capital’s kitchen market has fallen as the supply increases, but that of other commodities like edible oil, sugar, salt, rice and wheat marked an upward trend.
Onion price is decreased as the newly harvest onion arrived in the markets. New arrival onion with leaves was selling at Tk50 to 60 while local (old) onion was selling at TK 85 per kg, imported onion at Tk 65 to 75. Ginger (local) was selling at Tk 180, China ginger at Tk 200, garlic (China) at Tk 90, local garlic at Tk85 and garlic (one cell) at Tk 130.
Banking Companies Act likely to bring ambiguities
In terms of comprehensiveness, precision and clarity, the Banking Companies (Amendment) Act 2013 is likely to bring ambiguities among the stakeholders; the shortcomings of the Act, therefore, should be addressed immediately to ensure proper corporate governance in the banking sector, opine speaker at a conference organized by Institute of Chartered Accountants of Bangladesh (ICAB) at its auditorium in the city on Friday.

Bata to invest Tk 2000m in next five years
Jack Clemons, world wide chief executive officer (CEO) of Bata Shoe Organisation said Bata Bangladesh is going to invest Tk 2,000 million in next five years. Bata CEO was speaking at a press conference at its corporate office in Tongi, Gazipur on Thursday.
Jack Clemons led the press conference and gave his speech. He upholds Bata’s overall activities, current scenario and the future plans of Bata Bangladesh and said the new investment plan will create more employment. ‘The company is investing for the modernisation of two factories in Tongi and Dhamrai’, he said.
Like every year Bata Bangladesh is going to expand its market throughout the country, he added.

Political crisis threatening hard-earned economic progress: UN
The current political crisis in Bangladesh is exacting a heavy, human, social and economic toll, seriously threatening the hard-earned economic and social progress that the country has achieved, warns UN with a release form its news centre.
Voicing strong concern over widespread violence in Bangladesh that has left dozens of people dead since last month, Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon called on Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina to resolve differences over upcoming parliamentary elections scheduled for January through dialogue, said the release published here on Wednesday.
Addl security for power plants sought as violence mounting
The ministry of power, energy and mineral resources has requested the home ministry for additional security around the power plants across the country, in view of the worsening political situation.
“We have asked for additional security around the power plants which are not under Key Point Installation (KPI),” said Tapos Kumar Roy, Additional Secretary of the ministry.
“At the same time, the ministry has also asked the power supply entities to build up own security measures from their own resources without fully depending on the government,” Tapos said.
