Malaysian Premier arrives amid cordial reception
The red carpet was rolled out as Malaysian Premier Najib Razak and his spouse Rosmah Mansor arrived in the city this evening on a three-day official visit to Bangladesh.
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina received her Malaysian counterpart at the VVIP Terminal of Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport at 8.05 pm. Two tiny tots welcomed the Malaysian Prime Minister, his wife and entourage with bouquets.
Ministers, advisers to the Prime Minister, the chiefs of the three services, the Malaysian High Commissioner in Dhaka as well as high civil and military officials were present on the occasion.
BGMEA requests Biswal to withdraw GSP suspension
Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA) on Sunday requested the US government to withdraw the suspension of GSP facility for Bangladeshi products in the US market.
BGMEA President M Atiqul Islam made the request during a luncheon meeting with Assistant Secretary for South and Central Asian Affairs Nisha Desai Biswal in a city hotel today.
Biswal was accompanied by the US Ambassador in Dhaka Dan Mozena and other US government officials, said a BGMEA release. The meeting continued for about 1.15 hours.

Bangladesh offers huge potential for halal food industry
Bangladesh offers huge potential for the establishment of a halal food industry besides serving as a platform for Malaysian companies to penetrate Western and European markets.
Malaysian High Commissioner in Bangladesh, Norlin Othman said there was huge demand for halal food products in this country of 160 million people out of which 95 per cent were Muslims.
"We are competeting with India and Thailand in the food industry but we have an edge over them because of our status as an Islamic country," she told reporters during a briefing, Sunday.
